Thank you for your interest in being a volunteer mentor!

Requirements

In order to serve as a volunteer mentor, there are a few requirements. First, you must hold a university degree from a UK institution. This can be at the undergraduate or postgraduate (masters or doctoral) level. You will need to provide evidence of the completion of your highest degree in order to be accepted. This can be done by sending a copy of your HEAR document which shows completion or an image of your degree certificate.

As part of the registration process you will be asked to write 1-2 paragraphs about why you want to volunteer as a mentor for first-generation students and what experiences and knowledge you will bring to the mentoring relationship.

You must also name two references that we will contact prior to approving you for training. These can be academic, professional, or personal references.

Once you have gone through our initial check, you must then complete our training modules. After all modules have been completed, you will then be matched with a student.

Mentor Approval Process

Once you submit your mentorship form there’s a few steps that need to take place. First, your mentorship form will be reviewed by a member of staff and your references will be contacted.

After this is complete, you will be invited to undertake the Mentor Training Modules on Moodle. There are three Modules that will need to be completed. Upon completion of your training, you will be invited to sign your Mentor Agreement and write a short bio/blurb about yourself which will be made available on our website.
